Yep. Genuine old fashioned letter writing with a pen and paper – real stamp, envelope, into the post office. Yikes!
Actually that would be another note.
Nehemiah, chapter 2 is the strategic discipline I’m talking about here. Nehemiah was called by God to fix walls. The walls, for Jerusalem, were the way the enemy was allowed free reign to attack and take whatever he wanted. And you’ll notice that when Nehemiah went to Jerusalem, in verse 10, he ruffled some feathers of those enemies. When we take ground the enemy has been used to controlling, we will ruffle feathers and wake up demons.
But … back to letter writing.
Nehemiah seems quite surprised that the king he’s working for gave him permission to follow through on his plan. So, call him shocked when the king asked him, “What can I do to help?”! Golly days, he wasn’t quite ready for that question. But … he had prayed and thought this through some.
Is God asking you what He can do to help you in your leadership, or territory taking? Where does God need to take territory for you? Where do you need resources?
Now, I am quite aware that God doesn’t depend on us, or our insight! But he does ask us to consider, and to ASK him. Perhaps we need to know what we need!
Is God asking you what you need? Is he making you aware of strongholds around you where you will need to call out and upon Him for immediate, strong, stealthy help?
Notice in verse 9b, (NRSV), “Now the king had sent officers of the army and cavalry with me.” The king’s protection accompanied Nehemiah to take territory for God. Wow.
We work in partnership with God’s kingdom. So,we are humbly asking and seeking to be in alignment with Him. (i.e. This is not a “you claim it, God gives it” understanding. That would be arrogant to reduce God to serving us. We serve God, higher in wisdom and grander in mission than any of us.)
But, when we are asked to ask … God is planning to provide and protect. And we gain God’s wisdom for the mission along the way.
Together is better.
